It is now a little over a year since I took over the role of Executive Chairman of NGNuk.
I am pleased with the way NGNuk has evolved in the last twelve months. We have recognised that it is not appropriate to continue the large scale, detailed projects of previous years but rather we have focused on providing a forum where senior industry representatives can raise and debate cross industry commercial issues that affect all operators deploying NGNs. Given the widely diverse nature of the members it is not always possible to agree or resolve such issues, but the forum does allow industry to agree both their urgency and how resolution may best be achieved.
A considerable part of our activity in this last year has therefore centred on working closely with Ofcom to provide the Executive’s views and feedback regarding their prospective NGN consultation. In working collaboratively with Ofcom to inform their thinking prior to the consultation it was recognised by the Executive that whilst it could offer its opinion, Ofcom could choose to reject such views and that NGNuk was not setting any Ofcom policy. Much of the Executive meetings have therefore been focused on the opportunity to consider a range of issues that members of the Executive had suggested for consideration within the consultation framework.
At the March Executive meeting it was unanimously agreed that NGNuk should continue its activities and a budget for the new financial year 2009/10 was approved. To facilitate we have , again, substantially reduced the fees for the Executive members and set Participating Member fees to zero for next year to allow and encourage participation from as wide a group of stakeholders as possible..
Finally, we have published the minutes for the most recent Executive meetings
