Chairman's Report

NGNuk Executive Chairman's Update No 19 for July 2011.

I am pleased to say that the Executive recently voted to continue the work of NGNuk for another year.

The statement in May by Ofcom, regarding the security requirements in the revised Communications Act 2003 has given an impetus and urgency to our work to establish the NICC Minimum Security Standard for Interconnecting Communications Providers. Further details can be located in the ‘Minimum Security’ section of this web site.

The Executive has recently reviewed and agreed a proposal regarding a work stream that would seek to establish a harmonised approach for security and authentication by operators seeking to deploy WiFi networks. It is hoped this might provide a platform for wider collaboration between operators for the benefit of consumers. We welcome approaches from non NGNuk member wishing to know more or participate in this activity.
