Chairman's Report No 8

NGNuk Executive Chairman's Report No 8 for Apr 2007

I am pleased to report significant activity since our last Chairman's update.

The commercial work streams have continued to make steady progress. An NGNuk discussion paper has been submitted to BT Wholesale giving the thoughts of members towards the number and location of future IP interconnects and makes some alternative suggestions. The NGNuk paper comments upon the initial suggestion by BT Wholesale that the 20 locations proposed for wBC would provide the lowest overall cost for session based IP interconnect.

The charging work is also continuing to make progress. We anticipate publishing NGNuk views of how the various charge models (such as CPP, RPP and B&K) might be applied to End to End services traversing NGN interconnects with my next update. Meanwhile work is ongoing to review which elements of a product or service might be chargeable and the charging structure.

Members have now completed the 3rd draft of the End to End Requirements document. This is now available on our web site and comments are welcomed from interested parties. We have also published an Interconnect Requirements document to the members for comment. When this is sufficiently complete we will also publish this on our web site for wider comment. This is anticipated to be made available during May. The initial draft of this document will be used by NGNuk to finalise the scope of the overall work-streams for discussion with the Exec in April.

Meanwhile we continue to work with NICC to ensure that there is no unnecessary overlap of responsibilities with NICC. The terms of reference for the inter working have been agreed by the NGNuk Executive and it is hoped that NICC can endorse these at their executive meeting in April. NGNuk is also working closely with NICC to assist with the resource issues associated with the Green Release of multi service interconnect.

Finally, today we have published the minutes from the NGNuk Executive meeting of the 22nd February.
